Hi and welcome to my Gumroad page, Depending on how you've come across my page you may or may not know that much about me so here's a quick resume of my musical life thus far. I grew up in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada playing punk, metal and rock music and first got exposed to Jazz when I went to MacEwan college of music for a 2 year music program. I remember distinctly feelin extremely awkward playing brushes and I vowed to become a drummer that just never used them because I felt so useless at them. My teacher there Brian Thurgood had a good grasp of how to use brushes and he gave me a good foundation regardless of how bad I thought I was at them. After that music program I worked on cruise ships in a piano trio for over a year. During that time I was playing 4 hours a night every night and using brushes about 75% of the time. This helped me get much more comfortable using them but it wasn't until I got a lesson with Jeff Hamilton (he was on the same cruise ship as me for a week as a performer, insane luck) that I really started to get an idea of how to develop a sound with them. He showed me how to move the brushes in ways that most people don't think of and I came up with loads of little exercises to help integrate them into my playing. At this point I started practice about an hour of brushes in my cabin before hitting the stage in the evening. Then the following year I went to the University of North Texas to finish my Jazz Studies Degree where I got to study with Ed Soph for 3.5 years. After lots of big bands, cover groups and some country music and returned to cruise ships for a final year of brush heavy playing. Then I decided to move to Paris, France to check out the music scene in Europe and that's where I've been ever since. I decided to start posting Instagram clips a few years ago because I didn't really have any of my playing online at the time. I didn't have access to a studio to record drums in any decent manner so I decided to start filming brush lessons and posting those. People seemed to like them and I enjoyed that they pushed me to think of new ways to play so I've been trying to keep it up when I can. Currently I teachprivate drum students and teach rock band classes at Rock U Paris and The Amercian School of Paris. And I regularly play Jazz, Pop and Rock gigs around the city.
